Greenwave Advisors estimates that the legal weed business will reach $18 billion in sales by 2021 – and that’s if Trump’s administration continues to block legalization efforts.
If the government does facilitate legalization and loosens restrictions to banking and tax code, the industry is predicted to reach sales of up to $30 billion in 2021. When California legalizes recreational use in January 2018 the Golden State will make up around 40 percent of the market, meaning around $12 billion of the state’s economy will be coming from the weed industry.
That money isn’t just attracting stoners. According to Forbes the investors are flocking to the crop as well. In 2012 the average investment deal was worth about a half a million but in 2016 that number increased to $2.2 million.
If you grow pot, you’d be hard-pressed to pass up the opportunity to use Brad Pitt’s line from Inglorious Basterds: “I’m in the weed-growing business. And cousin, business is a’boomin!”
